How long does ceramic coating last?+
Durability depends on the specific Gtechniq package selected and how well the coated surface is maintained. Our Bronze package offers six to eight months of protection, Silver and Gold packages extend into the one to two year range, and our Platinum package is backed by a five-year warranty when annual maintenance washes are completed. Regular gentle washing with pH-neutral products and avoiding abrasive cleaners will maximise the lifespan of any ceramic coating.
Do I still wash my caravan?+
Yes, ceramic coating makes washing significantly easier and less frequent, but it does not replace regular cleaning. Dirt, road grime, bird droppings and salt should be removed promptly to prevent etching or staining. We recommend using a pH-neutral shampoo and a two-bucket wash method with microfibre mitts to preserve the hydrophobic layer and avoid introducing swirl marks that dull the finish over time.
Can you coat caravans?+
Caravans are one of our specialties and benefit enormously from ceramic coating due to their large surface area and constant exposure to UV, road debris and oxidation. We coat painted aluminium panels, composite walls, fibreglass gel-coat, windows and even wheels where appropriate. The result is a deep gloss finish that stays cleaner between trips and resists the harsh Australian sun far better than untreated surfaces.
Can you coat boats?+
Yes, we apply marine-grade Gtechniq coatings to boats and jet skis that are specifically formulated to resist saltwater corrosion, UV degradation and marine growth adhesion. Gel-coat, painted hulls, metal railings and outboard cowlings can all be protected. A coated hull stays cleaner for longer, reduces drag in the water and maintains a showroom appearance with far less scrubbing and chemical exposure than traditional waxing.
Does it prevent scratches?+
Ceramic coating adds a hard sacrificial layer that significantly reduces the risk of swirl marks and light scratches from washing, tree branches and road grit. It is not completely scratch-proof and will not prevent deep impacts from stones or keys, but it does make the paint far more resilient to daily wear. In most cases, any minor marring that does occur sits within the coating layer and can be polished out without touching the factory clear coat underneath.
How long does it take?+
Most ceramic coating packages take between one and three days depending on the size of the vehicle and the amount of paint correction required. A caravan with oxidation or swirl marks may need a full two or three stage machine polish before the coating is applied, whereas a new car or well-maintained caravan may only need a single stage. We will inspect your paint condition during the booking consultation and confirm a precise timeline before you drop off your vehicle.
How much does ceramic coating cost in Newcastle and Port Stephens?+
Our ceramic coating packages start from $990 for the Bronze package and range up to $3,490 for the Platinum package with a five-year warranty. Final pricing depends on the size of the vehicle, the condition of the paint and how much correction is needed before coating. A single-axle caravan in good condition sits at the lower end, while a large family van with heavy oxidation needs more preparation time. We provide a fixed written quote after inspecting the paintwork, so there are no surprises on collection day.
Is ceramic coating worth it on a caravan?+
For caravans stored outdoors in the Hunter, Port Stephens or along the coast, ceramic coating is one of the best value protective measures available. Caravans have a huge surface area that is constantly exposed to UV, salt air, tree sap and road film, and untreated paint or decals fade and chalk quickly. A coated caravan washes off in a fraction of the time, holds its gloss for years, and typically presents better at resale, which usually more than covers the cost of the coating.
What is the difference between ceramic coating and wax or polish?+
Wax and polymer sealants sit on top of the paint and wear away within weeks or months, especially on a caravan parked in full sun. A Gtechniq ceramic coating chemically bonds to the surface to form a hard, chemically resistant layer that lasts from months to years depending on the product. Polish is a corrective step that removes oxidation and swirls, and we often polish first, then coat, so the improved finish is locked in rather than washed away.
Can you coat an older or oxidised caravan?+
Yes. Older caravans are often the most rewarding to work on. We begin with a decontamination wash and clay bar, then machine polish the panels to remove oxidation, chalking and swirl marks before any coating is applied. Severely weathered surfaces may need multiple correction stages, and in some cases full gloss cannot be recovered, but we will always tell you honestly what result is achievable before you commit to a package.
Do you ceramic coat cars, boats and motorcycles as well?+
We do. The same Gtechniq accredited process is applied to daily-driven and prestige cars, boat hulls and gel-coat, jet skis, and motorcycle tanks, fairings and frames. Each surface type is prepared differently, marine finishes in particular need saltwater and UV specific products, so let us know the vehicle type when you enquire and we will quote the appropriate package and timeframe.
Where are you located and do you coat vehicles from Newcastle?+
Our workshop is at Taylors Beach in Port Stephens, roughly 45 minutes from Newcastle and easily reached from Nelson Bay, Raymond Terrace, Maitland, Medowie and the wider Hunter Valley. Customers regularly travel from Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and the Mid North Coast for coating work. We will confirm a drop-off and collection time when you book so you are not left without your vehicle longer than necessary.
Where can I get boat ceramic coating near Newcastle and Port Stephens?+
We coat boats, half cabins, runabouts and jet skis at our Taylors Beach workshop in Port Stephens, minutes from the Tilligerry and Nelson Bay ramps and about 45 minutes from Newcastle Harbour. Marine-grade Gtechniq products are matched to gel-coat, painted hulls, aluminium plate, stainless rails and outboard cowlings. Boats trailered in from Lake Macquarie, Swansea, Forster and Tea Gardens are welcome, and we will quote from photos of the hull before you tow it over. Call 0432 089 987 for a marine coating quote.
How much does it cost to ceramic coat a boat or motorcycle?+
Motorcycles typically sit between $490 and $890 depending on the amount of painted bodywork, fairings and correction required. Boats are quoted by hull length and condition, with small runabouts and jet skis generally starting around $890 and larger trailer boats moving up from there once topsides, rails and gel-coat restoration are included. Oxidised or chalky gel-coat needs machine cutting before coating, which is the main cost variable, so we inspect or review photos first and give you a fixed written price.
How do I maintain a ceramic coated surface?+
Wash every four to six weeks using a pH-neutral shampoo, a soft microfibre mitt and a two-bucket method, and dry with a clean microfibre towel. Avoid automatic brush washes, harsh truck wash chemicals and abrasive scrubbing pads, as these strip the hydrophobic top layer. For the Platinum package, an annual maintenance inspection with us keeps the five-year warranty valid and lets us top up the coating where needed.
